Almost-Wordless Wednesday: Max goes fishing!

He didn't catch anything other than pond scum, but he sure had a fun time trying. It was so exciting just to see him holding the rod. I can't help it: whenever Max tries a new activity, I get giddy. I literally do a happy dance.

Don't you feel the same about your child?

  1. Oh how wonderful! You deserved the happy dance. :)

Yep I get giddy too. Children are such a blessing.

  2. Too cute! I think you'll have to send him out to our house on Cape Cod next summer. My husband could use another fishing buddy.
Yes, I get the same way when I see Daniel participating in various activities. He was in the backyard pitching baseballs to his inflatable catcher the other day and insisting on chewing a piece of gum like his favorite Red Sox pitcher. I couldn't help but feel so very happy and proud. It's moments like those that make all of the therapy and doctors appointments so worth it.

  5. Oh Ellen! So many things to say....I'm playing catch up and just loving your last several posts!!!!!

I love to see Amelia doing stuff I haven't seen. It seems like she has this whole other life at school and with her respite worker than with me. They do activities with her that I've never even dreamed of. I love that I can take Amelia to the park and other Moms or Caretakers know her and say hello -- it always throws me off, because she has a life without me and that's strange...and wonderful!

  6. Fishing is such a great sport for kids of different abilities. It is easy to feel succesful at trying to dip a piece of string in the water, and you are happy and peaceful no matter what. he just looks happy to hold the pole whether he catches pond scum or a whale.

  7. Love that picture. He looks he is anticipating the "big catch".

I definitely do the happy dance when my daughter does something new. I think everyone else should too, but that might be asking a bit much. : )

  10. Graham is SO hesitant to try anything new! His comfort zone is a very small place. We've actually tried the fishing thing a couple times and he just mopes and pouts.

I went crazy this summer when he started going down the slide on his stomach, then backwards, then all pretzel like... not something he usually does... very daring for him.

  11. Yes, yes, a thousand times yes!

My kids love fishing with their grandfather (who is a pretty good fisherman, actually, he could be on one of those TV shows)--they do it a lot, and sometimes "they" (that's the "group" version of the word) catch something tasty and bring it home and grammy fries it up (or broils it, depending on her mood) and we eat it! They love the fun, the sense of purpose, and it gives them "Manly Man" time, too.

  14. Elizabeth loves fishing too. She is really good the fish almost jump on her line when I cast out for her.
I get excited about nutty things too and I am sure I have people turning their head as I praise what she is doing all the time.
I am really happy right now that Elizabeth CAN walk with these silly car slippers on.
