The Love That Max Year In Review (2010)

In January, I made peace with Max's purple obsession.

In February, Max entertained himself.

In March, on Cerebral Palsy Awareness Day, I told the world that Max is not a tragedy.

In April, I celebrated the sisterhood of the special needs child.

In May, I shared Top 20 Reasons Moms Of Kids With Special Needs Rock.

In June, Max tried the iPad and Proloquo2Go.

In July, I asked people to spare us the pity stare. Also, I saw dead birds.

In August, we were that special needs family.

In September, Max played piano and had his longest phone conversation ever.

In October, we shared our kids' special strengths.

In November, Max rhymed and wore out his Halloween car wash.

In December, Max tried so hard to tell me something, and I finally understood.

I hope 2011 is an amazing year for all of our kids and all of us, too. Happy New Year! What were the highlights of your year with your child?

  4. That IS a gorgeous pic of you guys.

At one year and 2 weeks old, Mango rolled over for the first time on Valentine's Day. In August we moved and Mango started to bloom. September we kicked the bottle and Mango learned to sign "All done" and "More". In October we moved into our own place, and Mango learned to 'growl' on que.

There's been a few other things, but I don't remember when he started them. He learned the value of a good tickle, he understands what I mean when I say "let's EAT!", he started to 'army crawl' - and is getting better all the time.

Yeah - it's been a HUGE year for us.

No matter how nice anyone's 2010 was, I'm praying we all have a better 2011.

  6. You are awesome! I LOVED your year in review, especially since I was only introduced to you and Max in September or October last year.
I'm definitely going to try to be more active in reading your blog this year, as it is so inspiring and motivational for all of us sisters.
Thank you for blogging, and for giving us all hope, encouragement, strength, suggestions, and help. You have a great thing going with this blog, and I'm excited to share in Max's victories this new year!

  8. Ellen,
So glad that Max has had such a wonderful year.
I don't get the chance to visit (or blog) as much as I used to since baby number 3 arrived, but it's always lovely dropping in and seeing how great Max is doing.
Love your work and LOVE LOVE this pic.
I am sure 2011 is going to be a brilliant year for you both. xo

  9. We've reduced tantrums by a good seventy percent this year, which means we can actually GO places sometimes!! Finally, they are the EXCEPTION and not the rule!

What a beautiful photo--the light and love shine through!

  10. What an absolutely beautiful photo of you and Max! You definitely share the same smile.

Congratulations on a year of such great progress.

My victory was somewhat minor. When the principal approached me and said in 3 years she had never seen (my son) so happy. What changed?" I just said thank you.

She spearheaded the move to push my son out of the district to a self-contained class. He is happy, he is thriving, he is cared for and he is away from the toxic environment of his old (her school). I really wanted to say "really? the only difference is that he is away from YOU"
