Crowdsourcing: What to pack for having the baby?

Baby boy is due two weeks from today. (OMG!) It's been ten years since I last had a kid, and I have no recall whatsoever of what you're supposed to pack in the hospital bag besides basics like clothing and a toothbrush. Still, I have my priorities straight: I have made Dave assure me that he will get me sushi (one of my fave foods) once the baby is born. When I had Sabrina, we had a stand-off because he thought I shouldn't have it since I was nursing. He won.

Is there anything you took that made your hospital stay more comfortable?

  1. I would suggest taking a camera in case someone forgets theirs.

  2. Take a couple of nursing bras if you're planning on breast feeding. Much easier and more comfortable than manipulating the hospital gown all the time.

    1. And a nursing night gown so you can take off that ugly hospital gown!

    1. And a pillow case that is not plain white so it doesn't get mixed in with the hospital bedding!

  4. How exciting! I had my littlest one 20 months ago after a seven year break so I know what you mean. :) Don't pack too much! Most of it you don't need. I have to say, I'm not a robe person, but I appreciated having my own robe in the hospital. And besides a camera (and making sure it's charged), and basic toiletries, I'm not sure what else I really used...going home outfit for the baby? Comfy clothes for yourself? That was about it. I guess it also depends on how particular you are.

  5. That's exciting you are packing for the hospital. I get to pack a bag when I head into the hospital for major surgery with a 1 night stay on October 14th.

    1. Good luck Kathryn! What hospital is it at? A word of advice for both you and Ellen, bring your own PJ's if you can they are much better than the hospital gowns also bring something that comforts you if your nervous about a procedure or surgery. I always ask for a stuffed dog that my friend,Lydia gave me.

    2. It's a hospital near me in upstate NY. Not one you would know. :) The Pajama advice is good. I have a stuffed bear that goes with me to every surgery. I got her before my first surgery at 4.

    3. It's good to have an item that comforts you especially before something big like surgery. I have had enough experience with hospital gowns to know I prefer my pajamas to them.

  6. Snacks! We were starving after the birth of Kid 1, but because it was 9 at night the kitchen was closed and they only had ham sandwiches or turkey and bacon sandwiches, and only for the birthing parent...we keep kosher! It was an issue. We ate our snacks and a relative ran out for Subway, but it sucked.
Also, good luck. I'm due in 7 weeks and time is both slow and flying by.

  7. I second nursing bra and would add lanolin cream and lansinoh soothie pads for chafed nipples. And, your favorite nursing pillow like the Boppy.
