So, does your husband help with gift shopping?

Today is Toy Tuesday, and while it's not a national holiday it is a site filled with discounts—for today only—from biggie stores like Toys “R” Us, Walmart.com, Step 2, Little Tykes, eToys, Drugstore.com, FAO Schwarz, HP, Overstock.com, MacMall, Mercantila and One Step Ahead. It's sponsored by Bill Me Later, the peeps who recently gave away the $250 Toys "R" Us gift card (and $500 to charity) here.

Me, I'm still in the early stages of holiday shopping. Very early stages—as in, I've been thinking I need to get it done. And secretly hoping that maybe Dave will pipe up and say, "Honey, let me handle the gift shopping this year!" Visions of sugar plum fairies are also dancing in my head.

Do your husbands help with buying presents, or does it fall on your shoulders? I mean, come on, it's not like they have to even go anywhere these days—they can do it from the comfort of their La-Z-Boys!

Word to my very own La-Z-Boy: Wanna help this year, sweetie?

  1. Mine doesn't help unless I drag him kicking and screaming for date night! :)

  3. Sad to say - Mine normally doesn't help. Last night, because he was in the area, I asked him to swing by the store that shall not be named in my house to see if the Tonka crane was in stock yet (please, oh, please, oh please) and he came home with VERY EXPENSIVE REMOTE CONTROL TOYS HE THOUGHT WERE COOL! Holy crap. Not what I needed. Not only not what I needed, now my bank account is in danger (told him to spend $20, he spent more than $100!) and I have one more thing to return. Sigh.

It's kinda like when you send him to the store for milk and he brings home Doritos - you know it's just so I wouldn't ask again.

  4. Sometimes my husband does. Usually it's me. I'm a bit more organized and better at the bargain hunting. But he does sometimes make really cool presents for the kids. He whittles toys for them and they think it's elf-made.

  5. I have to find a husband first ;-)

I don't think I would mind if he didn't help as long as he did something else productive, like say fix the toilets (which I need to call a plumber about).

  6. I do most of the shopping in our house. I leave his parents and his brother to him and I basically do all the rest (my parents, all the nieces and nephews, therapists, etc.). Guess that is how it goes in most houses...

  7. Ha, ha, ha. Funny post.

It is likely he may not even buy my gifts!

In the division of tasks, I got this one. It's not so bad.

  8. I work not far from the WALMART so that's where I go to get a few toys from Santa. We don't do the "ton of toys" thing, anyway--between the multi-generations of relatives (and there are a lot of them) who always cough up a gift or two, they get a ton of presents without me having to do a lot of shopping. Good thing, too! All I have to do is make out a list of stuff they'd like--that's not too difficult--and give it to my mom, who directs the "who buys what" effort.

  9. My husband has helped more this year than he ever has before. The day before Thanksgiving, he suggested that I just buy everything online instead of going to Toys R Us at 5 AM on Black Friday - never mind the shipping costs. That's the extent of his help, though. I am the only one who does the wrapping, too. Did I mention that it has always been my job to buy presents for him to send to his side of the family as well? Oh, but I love him.

  10. Mine doesn't help at all. Not one bit. Unless he has to bake something--then, he's in.

  11. Um ... guilty. I help with the ideas but it's my wife that follows through with the operations.

  12. I buy everything I really want. Then next week (?) we'll go on date night and hit Target. He'll pick out a few things that I don't really want them to have (for example: a basketball goal for a boy to have in his room since he already has one outside--I think hubs plays it more, Lincoln Logs, huge puzzles.)
I showed him some of my loot tonight before Marathon Wrapping Session #2, and he liked it. I would rather skip Target and just EAT!
Oh, and wrapping? Also my job.

  13. That would be a BIG N-O, Ellen! But he is ever so helpful at critiquing what I choose and second guessing! Sorry but it's true! When I drag him with, he complains. So mostly, I just do it after therapy when Faith and I are alone!

  14. We do all of our holiday shopping together every year. Thankfully. Too big a job for one person w/ this family.

  15. The answer is a resounding NO. I've long since given up hope that my husband would help at all. And, actually, I admit to secretly liking the control I have over who gets what!

  16. Husband-less girl here so this post doesn't really apply, lol

  17. No he doesn't! He has no Christmas spirit at all. Mind you, we don't have that many presents to buy, so I don't much mind!

  18. I love my husband dearly but he is hardly any help at all when it comes to buying gifts at Christmas or any other time of year. The only gifts he buys are mine and he can barely manage that sometimes!!

  19. Its 50/50 in my house. My husband does the Christmas shopping in early December and buy presents while I ask people, make a list and do the wrapping. Oh and I put name tags onto the presents.
