A love that runs deep

Sabrina got an Official Cast put on her arm on this week for her broken wrist. Dave took her, and I called from work while she was at the doctor's office.

"What color did you choose, sweetie?" I asked.

"Yellow!" she said, happily. She has been entirely too giddy about this cast.

"Mommy, I went K to be the first person to sign it!" she added.

K is her best friend.

When I got home that night, I saw this name on her cast. She'd had our babysitter write it. In purple.

My heart sort of did a cartwheel.

On the surface, Sabrina is often not very caring to Max. In fact, the word "obnoxious" comes to mind. It is why I get flashes of concern about whether she will someday be there to defend him if he needs it.

Clearly, though, this is a love that runs deep.

  1. I can relate. However, it will change as she gets older. When I had CJ, Kyra (my now 17 year old) didn't like him much. AS a matter of fact I think her words were, "He's ugly." LOL.

Fast forward through the years and he is her baby. She wants to take care of him all the time.

By the way, Maya (Marfmom) mentioned you are also in the NYC surround area? I'm in Westchester. She said you might be interested in a post I wrote about an orthotist I absolutely love. I don't know if Max needs any kind of orthotics but if he does and you are interested in trying a new provider then check out my post: http://specialmomspace.com/new-york-based-orthotist-creates-orthotics-around

  2. Kids eh?!
Day to day they fuss and fight but the love is there.
My girls always kiss Ashley when they see him at school and are so motherly when he's ill

  4. I have two boys, ages 11 1/2 and almost 6. They have a love/hate thing going. I hear this is normal, and I would like to think that if push came to shove the eldest would come to the youngers rescue. But mostly I wonder...... I think that as they get older it will become easier. Or else get harder, LOL.

  5. She will be there for him.

She will also give him a ton of crap at home. That's NORMAL. Anyone who doesn't fight with their siblings is a wuss. It is a rite of passage.

Believe me, I speak from experience.

  6. That is really heartwarming. What a sweet girl. I often wonder how my 5-year-old is affected by all the attention her baby sister gets - therapies, Dr. appointments, special diet. I remind myself that this is what she knows. She is not familiar with having a baby sister without special needs. We just started HGH treatment and every night as part of the routine, my older daughter gathers stickers to give her sister as a reward for the shot. Her help has made the process so much easier for all of us.

  7. I can relate sometimes I want to "kill" my brother and sister but I would "kill" for them in the blink of an eye :)
