7 recent photos I love

I wish I had more time in life to do photography. Hobbies? What hobbies? Mine consist of raising kids, talking on the phone with the insurance company, swiping Max's Cheez Doodles and sleeping.

During our Arizona vacation, though, I had time to take some purposeful photos—ones where I thought about composing shots and used my actual camera, as opposed to the quickie pix I take on my iPhone (not that there's anything wrong with quickie shots or quickie anything). I love the above one because, and maybe this sounds corny, I look at it and think of how strong Max stands.

A saguaro cactus. It blossoms in May or June, and the flowers last only for 24 hours.

She looks so happy here.

This makes me think life is filled with possibilities.

Crema de Tequila at La Hacienda (and yes, it was delicious)

Max. Wandering around a pool independently (with Dave in the background standing close by). Amazing.

Ansel Adams or Annie Leibovitz, I'm not, nor do I aim to be. I find the process of leisurely taking photos, crafting shots and editing them relaxing, fun and satisfying. I need more of that kind of activity in my life.

If I had time on my hands, I'd also read a lot more books. Ride my bike (dusty and tires deflated, sitting pitifully in my garage). Make craft projects. Do more volunteer work. And, oh yes, nap.

How about you: What would you do if you had more free time?

  1. That's pretty cool that you got the 24-hour bloom. It reminds me of butterflies, don't they have a very short life?

It sounds like you had a great trip.

And as far as photography goes, my college photography teacher told us you can take a very fine photo with a cell phone camera. Take the extra second or two to make it so. Seize the moment.

If I had more time, I think I would paint, just for the fun of it.

  2. I love these, Ellen! You may not be Ansel or Annie, but you have more adorable subjects!

  3. beautiful photos - you must be so proud of your kids!

  4. Love that photo of Sabrina. If I had time, I'd learn to sew.

  5. Those are great pictures.

For years, I've thought that I didn't have enough time to get things done. But then I realized that my migraines were sucking up more and more of my time. So, for me, it's not a matter of having more time, but having more health/pain-free days. But if I had them, I'd finish my novel.

  6. I love this post. I have not really thought much about what hobbies I would like to have, so thanks. I seem to have forgotten what I am passionate about, besides raising my wonderfully, amazing CP child. I love to take photos too. I would love to have a better camera. I also like to shoot home videos and make home movies. I would love to learn to cook awesome gourmet meals, or even foods worth of a food truck. As a matter of fact, I wish I had time to be a food blogger. I am an extremely talented eater. Other things that apeal to me are scrapbooking, biking, ballroom dancing, hiking, and creative writing.

  7. I have a million things on my list of wanting to do/would love to do. Most things fascinate me (except no offense accounting and finances) and as a kid I wished I would live a million years so I could pursue all my interests!! I really did!!

  8. This post is right up my alley! I love that my job is to help moms take their photo ideas to another level. Is it a sin to enjoy my work?

You clearly have a love for photography and a good foundation so keep at it! There are no rules what you do or how you do it so snap away w/ that iPhone.

  9. Can Max swim? I hope that is not one of the questions specail needs moms hate to hear.

  10. Funny, I look at the bottle of tequila and think that life is full of possibilities...

If I had more time I guess I'd also work on my photography. And hike more. And weave all my family's clothes on a loom using wool that I shored off of lambs and dyed myself using roots and berries.

Or maybe just stay awake long enough to finish watching an episode of CSI.

  11. Nice pictures! I'm glad Max had a good time. My family and boys went on ower first trip last summer to Chadanooga Tennessee and Isaac didn't adjust too well. We struggled with lots of sensory issues. But I want quit tring.

Thanks for sharing!
