  1. Thanks again, Ellen. Dexter's at #9 this week. Our post is about his sister - and, though she's only one, she knows Dexter isn't the same as her... She doesn't have the words to explain his cerebral palsy and (beaten) cancer, but she has the empathy and understands. She's proud of Dexter, and loves him so much. Happy weekend.

  2. Hi Ellen, happy valentines to you and your family. Communication is crucial in any relationship. How often do we hear couples complaining that their partner doesn't understand them? Well imagine living in a world where no one understands you, because you can't vocally talk. Then imagine that the people who love you have been advised not to provide alternative communication because you should be encouraged to talk? On Valentines day I want everyone to share my TEDx message that everyone, regardless of whether they are speaking or not, deserves to have a means of communication as a priority. Because everybody deserves to be heard. xx

  3. This post is actually a podcast, but I link to the show notes that gives an overview of the podcast.. I cover the issue of handling hurtful words as a special needs parent. What you do to overcome those hurtful words.

    Enjoy your Valentine's Day everyone.

  4. In "Communication Before Speech" (#23) I've put together the no-nonsense, definitive link list for parents of kids who have speech limitations. Our kids have the right to a way to communicate *right now* before speech develops!
