And to the proud parents who helped shape him. The organization and staff sound wonderful and I had a chuckle at Frank’s interaction with your family. It’s indeed a different path for Max and a path forward filled with positive possibilities! What you’ve done here, all these years on the blog, is the opposite of that. You write of Max’s life as just that — a life. You have acknowledged his differences and difficulties, and highlighted his strengths. Like a PERSON not a DISABLED PERSON. It is, I would imagine, how you have been as his parent: giving him the care he needs, advocating for him, celebrating his successes— like a mom. Just a mom and a kid. A family. What you’ve done, with your beautifully written chronicle of Max and his life with you all, is something extraordinary. Something that shouldn’t be extraordinary- portraying disability as just another aspect of life- but is. Ellen, I salute you for having the strength to tell the truth, to share the highs and lows, and the incredible writing chops to do it with such grace, beauty, humor and charm. Good luck to Max on his next chapter.
