  1. You may have heard of the special needs grocery cart, "Caroline's Cart". Today, I posted about our experience with it and how it is making our grocery shopping easier!

  4. Ellen....thank you for allowing me to post my blog on your site. I admire all you do for the special needs community.

  5. "The Ghost of Playgrounds Past" is about the experience of returning to the neighborhood playgrounds, not with my child who has special needs, but now with her typical sibling. I knew it would sting, but didn't anticipate the heaviness of it.

(Ellen, after I wrote this I thought back, again, to our conversation at Gavin's event. This re-parenting is going to be filled with little PTSD-style flashbacks, I think.)

  6. Hi, I had placed my link twice because for some reason I kept getting an error message even when I refreshed the page. Sorry about that Ellen. (It's numbers 15 and 16). Then suddenly they just showed up. Don't know if anyone else had this issue.

  7. Thanks for the link-up. I debated between linking up to two different posts, but decided to save one for next week and go with the "Let's Get Together" post instead. It is about meeting with our son's current kindergarten teacher and the school principal to discuss placement for our son next year (he's repeating kindergarten, but the questions of which classroom and which building weighed heavily on our minds and hearts).

  8. I gathered lots of information about choosing a wheelchair and what a difficult decision it can be. There's also a video to show how much my son learned and surprised me. I hope this is helpful to others.

  10. Thanks Ellen. We're at #58 this week. We're doing Relay for Life today, for Dexter who is a liver cancer survivor. He's almost 3 and has been cancer clear for 16 months. :) He will 'walk' his Survivor Lap in his modified bike... ok, we'll pull him around the track on it, but still! Happy Weekend.

  11. We recently celebrated 9 months home with our daughter. It's good to see how far she has come because in the day to day I forget these accomplishments.

  14. this week I interviewed Gabe. Gabe is differently abled, but I don't see a disability, I see an adventurous spirit, someone who works hard and loves life. Watch at http://www.giftjoy.org/meet-the-artists/2014/4/23/meet-gabe

  16. I attended an excellent conference on Friday on the topic of resilience and teens and young adults with autism and special needs. Good to learn that no matter what life throws at us, we can keep positive with the right tools, including social support, which this blog really helps with.
