Every time we go to my mothers house he uses her iPad and cries when it's time to leave because be wants to continue watching movies and playing games on it. Right now it's a hard time for us, I'm not able to purchase him one which I wish I could. I've read that studies shown that iPad are used to help non verbal children express themselves, it would change my life forever to have an iPad for my son and to hear him say MOM or to point to a picture and try to sound it out!!! I wish everyone luck and I send BLESSINGS to everyone's children! I would hope to dontate the speech program to somebody else because his verbal skills are developed, the reason I am applying for him is because the school is taking budget cuts again and he'll no longer have access to such devices and we cannot afford one for him to stay up with his class. His seizures were primarily infantile spasms--100 a day and devastating. We watched him lose all his skills as an infant and fought with everything we had. At the age of four we finally got him seizure-free, and the results are nothing short of a miracle. Very slowly but surely he is learning to do things like grab objects. His dad and I are musicians and Miles is mesmerized by music. His OTtried a guitar app on the school iPad and Miles went crazy for it. He is fascinated by my iPhone too. He's been working hard with his SLP and an iPad was next on our list because it will open up a whole new world to him. She currently gets to use one about an hour a week when her teachers are here with them. She will be 3 in April and there has been much talk about how she needs an Ipad of her own as a communication device/assistive technology. We live in one of the poorest counties in Minnesota and may never see the funding she is eligible for to get one due to long waiting lists. I know that Abbi would benefit greatly if she were to get an Ipad of her own. Abbi has multiple disabilities and serious health problems. She recently underwent open heart surgery for an asd which is seen in about 50% of children with Down Syndrome. She also has Epilepsy, which has caused partial loss of her right side, a significant speech delay and she also has a hearing deficient. She does very well with recognizing images and making choices when given pictures of objects. Thank you very much for your generosity.
