Max likes me enough, but I sometimes can't compete with his affection for Lightning McQueen. He has loved that car, and the movie, since it came out. "Lightning McQueen" was the first two-word phrase Max ever said. We've worn down at least two Cars DVDs. That scene in the move in which McQueen is talking to himself and saying "No, No, No" and then "Yes, Yes, Yes" cracks him up every time.
The other week, I asked Max if he'd like to go see Cars 2 in a movie theater when it's out. Max has never seen a movie in a theater; he freaks out. Our area has an AMC theater with sensory-friendly screenings for kids with special needs, and I might try that though I'm not sure Max will be into it. Getting a big box delivered to your house with a Cars 2 Road Trip Survival Kit gift, however, is a different story. It arrived just in time for our beach getaway. Max was in shock at first. Do you think Sabrina has a future as a game show host?
Word, all summer long when you buy Kleenex, Cottonelle, Pull-Ups, and other Kimberly-Clark products featuring Cars 2 labels, you'll get codes you can redeem for Cars 2 goodies. Meanwhile, I have one Cars 2 Road Trip Survival Kit to give away. It's worth $230 and includes:
• A Die Cast Character Car
• Cars Giant Color Pages
• A Disney Cars 7" Portable DVD Player
• An original Cars DVD
• Disney Cars Pool Tumbler with Straw
• (2) Cars reusable totes
• Cottonelle Moist Wipes
• Cars branded Scott Extra Soft TP
• (4) Kleenex pocket packs
• Cars branded Pull-Ups
• (1) Cars branded Viva paper towels
To enter, just leave a comment about your favorite road trip—either with your family or with your family growing up or both! I have wonderful memories of visiting Stockbridge, Massachusetts with my mom, dad, and sister, and of picnicking at Tanglewood as we listened to classical music. Dave and I took Max there as a baby, and I remember people asking what I fed him because he was so chunkalicious.

I had a great roadtrip last summer driving to Grandma and Grandpa's with the kids. It's a long drive, but we spaced it out over a few days, and made stops to visit friends and stay at hotels with waterparks. I was stressed about driving so long with 2 little kids, but they were champs, and we ended up having a wonderful time.

ReplyDeleteI'm so far down the list, I probably don't stand a chance - but I HAVE to try because my little Evan is right there with Max and his crazy love of all things Lightning McQueen!
ReplyDeleteNot best, but most memorable road trip - every year my mom would drive me and my brothers down the cape to stay with my grandparents. It was only a 4 hour drive, but we loaded up the minivan like we were moving in. Bikes, clothes, towels, more towels, extra bathing suits, extra toys... loaded to the top with extra tied on the roof of our poor little 4 cylinder first edition mini van. It was the first year we had that van, and of course we left late because who on earth could get 3 crazy kids on the road on time? But that meant we hit Boston during rush hour traffic on a scalding friday afternoon - and our little van started to overheat. First the ac was turned off, and we opened all the windows that would open. But it was so overloaded, such a strain on the engine in that kind of heat to be in stop and go traffic, the car started to loose power. Next, Mom turned on the heat while we all howled in protest - it was 90 degress out! That bought us just enough time to make it on the Bourne bridge. It is an uphill shot over the Cape Cod canal and if we could just make it over the bridge then the traffic would let up and we were home free! But our van had been on it's last leg for well over an hour, and it was just more demand than any overheated car could take. It just died. Right there, on the narrow bridge in rush hour. No where to pull over, she just stopped the car right there. After thinking for a moment over the blaring horns of the very unhappy drivers around us, she calmly told us kids to get out (ages 8, 9 and 11)and start pushing! She stepped out of the drivers side herself and steered while trying to nudge the car UPHILL in 90 degree weather! Luckily, the other angry drivers seemed to cool down at the sight of little kids trying futilely to push a very loaded minivan uphill and took pity on us. Soon we had a whole lane full of people telling us to get inside while they urged the car upwards. An officer came and blocked the little traffic that was going around us so that we had a straight shot while a flock of strangers pushed us up and over the hill where we could glide the car to a safe spot! My mother was mortified, but grateful, and we got to eat ice cream while we waited for the tow truck. Plus we had to stay an extra few days while the car was repaired! Mom still puts that in the worst day ever category, but my brothers and I remember it pretty fondly. :)

I don't know if I can pick a favorite Road Trip! My family used to take road trips to see extended family every summer (usually to Florida) and I remember that money was tight (heck, there was no money) and so my dad would drive straight through, the full 24 hours while us kids slept in the back.

Alas, I don't think we have room for anything else CARS in this house. He has a CARS dvd,CD, and a mcqueen shaped player to play them in, laptop,a CARS lamp, clock, stuffed Mater and Mcqueen, watch, and probably every shake-n-go Cars character they make! Good luck to someone else and thank you Ellen for the giveaways! We got our Schwan's delivery two days ago, YUM!

When I was in 3rd grade, we drove from Michigan to Fort Walton Beach Florida in our van, which had bench seats in the back that faced each other and could be folded out to make a bed. I remember stopping in Georgia for boiled peanuts, and I remember the visitor center at the Florida border gave us free glasses of orange juice. It's a trip I'm hoping to take with my own family some day!

ReplyDeleteOnce when we were traveling through Alanta, GA the rear end dropped out of the back of the car. We were in the process of moving to Tn. The moving truck went flying past us. We were stuck in the waiting room of the dealer with a dog and bird. A lady who was there getting her car fixed, took us to the store to by some clothes and things, then to Wendy's for food, and finally to a local motel. The next day my uncle drove up for Mom, me, my sister, and the pets. Dad stayed until the car was fixed.

ReplyDeleteThat kitten just sat there and just understood. she loved looking out the window. when we stopped for food or restroom break everyone raised an eyebrow at the girl with the kitten. she always did think she was a puppy after that. ;)

ReplyDeleteI don't have a car right now, but a few months ago I took my kids to spend the night on an organic farm about 4 hours away by bus. We had BLAST and I was proud of myself for daring to venture out w/ them w/ no car. :)
