I've written before about the kids sleeping in our bed—on November 3, 2008, to be precise. I haven't said much about it since because nothing had changed.
But Dave and I were getting increasingly fed up. Two adults and two kids in a queen-size bed isn't all that fun, or conducive to good sleep. It's not conducive to lots of other stuff, either. So Dave and I came up with a plan.
First, I went to a local store and bought a Cloud B Twilight Turtle (above). I'd seen it advertised, and it looked cool. It projects a starry night sky onto ceilings and walls in three colors—blue, green and amber. Heck, I wanted one for me.
Then I ordered Pillow Pets. The kids had seen them on TV and were asking for them. Call us suck-ahs, call us desperate parents, whatever. We got Max the purple hippo, Sabrina the dalmatian.
Last, and this was Dave's brilliant/desperate idea, we blew up the Aerobeds we keep in the basement and put them in Max's room.
Then I told the kids that we would sell them to a traveling circus if they did not sleep in there.
OK, I didn't really.

In the last few weeks, the kids have happily gone to bed in Max's room. The Twilight Turtle stars and moon are mesmerizing—Sabrina likes to try and count them. The kids think the beds are fun, and the Pillow Pets are cuddly.
OK, so the kids still end up coming to our room in the middle of the night. But this is half the battle, won.
I asked The Cloud B peeps if they'd be game to spread the sleep love around, and they offered up two Turtles as giveaways, each worth $34.

Or you could get the ladybug version, if you'd like.
You can also get 15 percent off Cloud B products now through March 18, 2010, by using the code MAX-0210.
To enter, just leave a comment about your child's sleep habits...or lack of habits! Also, mention whether you'd like the turtle or ladybug.

My son hates to go to bed. He'll insist that he's not sleepy. Once he's in bed it can take anywhere from 10 minutes up to an hour for him to finally go to sleep. Once asleep he'll stay asleep most nights.

aww ttally adorable! please pick me, my daughter would love this, she lvoes having sleepovers, and this would be a huge hit!!
ReplyDeleteinvisible_fairy_05@yahoo.com
thanks!
My son is 2 1/2, he started sleeping through the night, sometimes, at 1, and then regularly right before he turned 2. I feel like I put my time in. But I love the turtle, I have almost bought one in the past. And I do plan on having future babies that would love it :) And my son and I would both appreciate it still :)
ReplyDeleteMy three are the worst sleepers ever!!! Most nights are like musical beds in our house!! We tried the Floppy Sleep Game (It's a CD that kids listen to while they are trying to fall asleep) and it worked for a while but we eventually reverted. I would be thrilled to try either the ladybug or the turtle and would be THRILLED if they worked!!!
ReplyDeleteMy childs sleep habits are to push me to the limit of my sanity. She does not sleep more than 6 hours a night & never seems to run out of energy. I'd love the ladybug.

I would love the turtle - both kids still sleep with us!
ReplyDeleteananemone(at)gmail(dot)com
I'd love to win the turtle! I have three little girls who all take quite a bit of work to get to sleep!
ReplyDeleteWhen our kids were very small, they shared a room which seemed to work well for them to have company (besides us) at night. When they got a little older, maybe 3 or 4, we let them help "design" their own rooms. Mostly they'd sleep on their own, although periodically they'd visit one another. I'd love to have a Twilight Turtle for my little nephew.
ReplyDeleteI...can't really answer this, since I don't have a child of my own. (I'm entering this for my niece, who has wanted a twilight turtle for a while now...she's really into turtles.)
ReplyDeleteI can say that my niece seems to sleep really well when she sleeps over, and my nephew isn't really at the point where he wants to sleep anywhere but his own home. :-)
I hope this counts, and thank you for the giveaway!

I think I have tried *everything* to get my baby girl to sleep (Other than this) Lets see... white noise, cooler room, warmer room, humidifier, cozy sheets, heating pad on matress to pre-warm it before bedtime, rocking her to sleep, laying he down like a stealth mission and praying she doesn't wake up by noticing me set her down! It is a hard task!! I would love the ladybug!!

ReplyDeleteBedtime is a nightly battle at my house!
I would love the turtle light, and so would my kids :)
ReplyDeleteMy kids are generally really good sleepers. It seemed like I had to hold and rock them to sleep until about 1 year of age, then they would just one night go to bed fine without crying. So those of you who are struggling - keep trying to put them in their own bed every night, and one night it WILL work!!
My 20 month old daughter has terrible sleep problems due to accommodations we needed to make for her special needs. She falls asleep if we rock her, sleeps in her crib for about an hour, and then wakes up and won't go back down unless she in our bed.
ReplyDeleteNaps were the same way, until someone gave us the Twilight Ladybug! Now she puts herself down for naps... such a blessing for a tired mama. We're working on the night-time part, but I consider the naps a major victory. With baby #2 on the way, I want to nip any sleep issues in the bud and would LOVE LOVE LOVE a Twilight Turtle for the little guy!!! Thanks for the chance!
I don't have kids of my own, but my sister's kids have a hard time falling asleep. They moved to a new house and they're still not used to it and I think the turtle would definitely help.

Our daughter sleeps in her crib right next to our bed. By that I mean SMACK NEXT TO OUR BED, we took the front rail off and lowered the mattress so that I can nurse her when she wakes up at night and we can all keep on sleeping. It is actually working out pretty good so far, before that she would sleep in our bed and I got a little tired of that! Would love the ladybug!

ReplyDeleteour baby's sleep habits are like a roller coaster. one day she will sleep 4-5 hour stretches during the night and then suddenly she will wake every 2 hours. it was like this for the past 2 months until this weekend she resumed the long stretches after she started flipping over and sleeping on her stomach!

ReplyDeleteJoHanna is 3 weeks now and is getting a little bit of a routine down. She sleeps about 3.5-5 hours at a time! Sometimes at night though she wants to just stay up and hang out when I am so tierd! I keep a night light on next to her bassinet because I am so nervous! I wake up so many times just to check on her! Can you tell I am a first time mom? lol

ReplyDeleteMy son and I like the turtle and my daughter likes the ladybug. Go figure. I have the same problem with my daughter who is 8. she comes into our room nightly where our 4 year old son no longer does. Hmm. Can't figure it out.
ReplyDeleteMy daughter is a pretty good sleeper in general but there are definitely some nights when she has sleep problems. She is still in a crib though and we wonder what is going to happen once she is in her big girl bed.

Our kids want to come into mom and dad's room in the middle of the night and sleep in our room occasionally. We have never let them on our bed but they do sleep on the couch or the floor at times. I love the turtle.
ReplyDeleteMy daughter is the best sleeper... slept through the night from the day she came home from the hospital. LUCKY. But she has a cold presently... and has had a rough couple of nights. I am so thankful this is just temporary. (I hope.)
ReplyDeleteChristina - xristya@rock.com - The children here are usually exhausted and sleep well, except when they're excited about an upcoming event! I'd love the Turtle Light!
ReplyDeleteFirst of all I love the turtle. Where.. oh where... do I begin with sleeping habits. I have three boys a 7 month old, a two year old and a 5 year old. My youngest Connor is already climbing out of his crib and my middle child Casey has to sleep with the light on and my oldest ends up in my bed every night. If this would help with any of my boys you are a lifesaver.
ReplyDeleteWe used to have 2 kids + 2 adults in our queen size bed. We bought a king. lol Typically the boys fall asleep in our bed and we move them to their bed, but then they end up back in our bed in the middle of the night. My oldest has gotten sneaky and I don't even realize that he's in our bed until I wake up in the morning. I think we would love the turtle.
ReplyDeleteMy little one got used to sleeping with me since colic and now there are nights if I move to get up to do my own thing or pee he cries. other nights he's fine on his own.

These are so cute! My grandson doesn't like going to bed but once he's a sleep, he is a good sleeper. I know that the little turtle would entice him into getting into his bed.
ReplyDeleteMy kids sleep well (so far), but Little Miss wants the light on and her brother doesn't. This would be a perfect way to make them both happy!
ReplyDeleteMy son is just starting to realize it's more fun in Mom's bed and that if he just holds out long enough, he'll get to go there! I'm wondering if this turtle would help him get a little more excited about his own room.

I would like the ladybug..my kids are generally good sleepers as long as they have their baby dolls and night lights..if we go to bed without either one of those things it is not a very good night.

I have 2 boys that don't require much sleep. It is so frustrating when my friends tell me how much their kids sleep and mine make it hard for my DH and I to even say goodnight to each other before we fall asleep. My 2 1/2 year old keeps on asking for stars on his ceiling. The turtle looks like a great way to do it.
ReplyDeleteI'd like the turtle
ReplyDeleteMy nieces have very different sleep preferences. One likes the light on the other likes it dark. And they both have a hard time getting to sleep unless someone is in the room with them.
Our kids' sleeping habits are like this - when they're tired, they sleep, and when they're not, they don't... and what time of day doesn't matter (although I must add that they're only two)! The 'Twilight Turtle' looks cute. :)
ReplyDeletemcj4tlj(at)comcast(dot)net
My kids...2 and 3...share a room. They are pretty good about sleeping, but this is just too cool. I have actually wanted one since they were babies. If I won, I would choose the ladybug and probably buy the turtle. We are moving in a month and a half and the kids will have their own rooms. Thanks!
